Boutique developer, BuildHer Collective came to us wanting to convert a rare large block of land into a design for three modern terrace houses sitting high on Ruckers Hill in Northcote. The design for the houses focussed on creating expansive internal spaces with flexible living over three stories.

Perched on Ruckers Hill, with its distinctive views of Melbourne, Clarke St Terraces are imbued with a feeling of privacy and tranquility. The houses are designed to sit comfortably between their heritage neighbours, presenting elegant, considered proportions to the street. A subtle, textural composition of brickwork and battened timber cladding encloses each house. The form both reaches towards the view and unfolds at the rear following the fall of the land, to provide three levels of accommodation and connection to the abundant gardens at the base of the site. The design for the terraces invokes the feeling of a sanctuary to balance out the dynamic nature of this bustling inner city suburb.

We wanted to emulate the care and the level of detail of the neighbouring Victorian terrace houses in a contemporary way.
